TimeLine Rockingham is Vacant
????[Unestablished Time] Fuhrman walks neighbors property to area opposite the glove location.
0800 [8:00 AM]
0805Jason Simpson arrives at Rockingham.
0809coroner's people get second call for Bundy.

per civil trial, The coroner's office calls to send a coroner down to pick up the victim's bodies, called at 6:49. They're called again at 8:09 and they get down there a little after 9:00 in the morning, two coroner assistants, and they begin to prepare the two victims bodies to be removed and taken to the coroner's office.

Cochran -- They break the State Law in calling the Coroner out 10 hours later.
**** Arnelle is not allowed to remove her car ****
0815Jason takes Arnelle to a friend's house. I was at my friend's house the majority of the day. I had called Cathy at some point. I fell asleep, woke up. I was watching TV, just talking, crying. [between 8:00 & 8:30]
0815[people's 62-B] Bronco Door stain recovered. Fung see stains inside.
0830Mark Fuhrman rings Salinger doorbell, asks Lopez for permission to check rear, and then interviews her.
Phil Vannatter Calls Marcia Clark
CLARK (Larry King Live, 13 may 1997):
This is happen stance. Phil and I worked together on a previous case. We had a really good time together and worked well.

Phil Vannatter {sic} called me Monday morning, June 13th, and said I want to tell you the facts of the case. Tell me if I have enough for a search warrant. And really that's how it started. At that point, it was up to Garcetti to decide whether or not I would have the case or not. He decided to let me...

... No. I mean I had a vague idea {who OJ Simpson was}. Phil Vannatter said to me, I have got this case. OK, tell me about it. And he ran the facts by it. And he said you know who this is. No, well, it's O.J. Simpson. OK.

And I was like ashamed to admit. OK, who is that? I had this weird -- this little idea -- oh, I think he was the guy in the Hertz commercial running through the airport. You know, I think he was the guy on "Naked Gun." And that's all I remembered.

0900 [9:00 AM]
0900Bronco stains 4 through 6 collected.
0905Cororner arrives at Bundy per his report.
0915Bronco stains 7 & 8 collected.
0920Fung collects the blood drops. Blood drops which go either from the house to car, car to house?
Marcia Clark, "Without a Doubt", page 17
While the Detective Vannatter reports tracking the drops dricetly from the front door to the Bronco, and Fuhrman states he and Brad Roberts track the drops from the Bronco to the front door, Clark Reports that, upon her arrival:
A white Ford Bronco sat nosed into the curb on Rockingham. Extending up the driveway from the rear of the vehicle was a trail of reddish-brown spots. The rust-colored droplets stopped several yards short of the house. The front door was open and in the foyer I could see more droplets. They appeared to be blood.
Note Clark's usage of words -- the LAWYER's LIE -- where the Bronco is "nosed into the curb". Those words imply a greater angle than reality presented. And note how she stops the drops "several yards short of the house." Clark nededs to set these illusions in order to imply, or assert both, that Simpson was in a hurry, and that he went to the pathway. Clark is trusting that her readers will be ignorant of the facts -- as established in the testiomony, and books by the detectives who claim the discovery.
{April 5th testimony}
Scheck: NOW, IN TERMS OF THESE RED STAINS THAT YOU FOUND, WOULD YOU AGREE THAT THE PATTERN OF RED STAINS THAT YOU FOUND WAS LEADING FROM THE RESIDENCE TO THE BRONCO OR THE BRONCO TO THE FRONT DOOR OF THE RESIDENCE?
Fung: YES.
0930 [9:30 AM]
0930Fuhrman shows Fung where to collect glove [Item #9]. It is placed into paper bag method not remembered.- Fuhrman collects Blue Plastic Bag [Item #10] from other side of fence and hands it to Fung.
Marcia Clark, "Without a Doubt", page 6
There was nothing on my calendar to indicate that this would be anything other than a short-skirt day. No need for a "believe me" suit.

It was 9:30, and I was late -- as I usually am when I don't have to make it in under the gavel. ... My friends even have a term for it: Marcia Standard Time.

1000 [10:00 AM]
?1000?Marcia Clark approves wording of Search Warrant prepared by Detective Philip Vannatter {per Tom Lange, LKL 02/25/97}
1000Approximate time Fung & Mazzolla leave Rockingham. Items 1 to 10 are locked in back of Crime Scene Truck.
1000Vannatter, on way for Warrant, stops at Bundy, stands on bloody sheet {defense 1059 Video} before going on to Rockingham. {defense 1078 Video} Fung queried on moved glove. {Video counter 0:18:18:01 shows Fung inside Bundy crime scene with Rockingham Glove.}
*??*On plane, Simpson calls former girlfriend, Tawny Kitaen he's trying to reach Cathy Randa.
1000Reichardt & Paul Resnick have phone conversation about Resnick's involvement in murders.
1000{10:00 or 11:00} Robert Kardashian {at his home/office} gets a phone call from Shelli Azoff informing him about the murders. She had heard about it from her hairdresser, Alex Roldan. She said, "Robert, I just heard that Nicole was shot and killed."
Kardashian calls OJS's home to confirm -- Detective Fuhrman answers.
I asked him -- I said, "I just heard Nicole was shot and killed." And he said, "She was killed." And I said, "You mean she wasn't shot?" And he said, "No. She was killed." And I said, "Well, can you give me any more information?" And he said, "No. Thank you," and he hung up.
I called Shelli Azoff back, and I said, "Nicole was"
"Yes, she's been killed, but I don't know how." And I think I may have said, "I'm going go over there."
He then calls his fiance, Denice Halicki and tells her Nicole was killed and that he's going over there.
he drives there [about 10 minutes] in his Mercedes. From the car phone, he calls his ex-wife, Kris, who informs him --
"yes, Judy brown just"
"I've been on the phone to Judy, and I was supposed to have lunch with Nicole today. I was going to meet her at 11:00 o'clock today."
Kardashian apporaches from Ashford, and parks on Ashford -- walks to Rockingham Gate -- which is standing open -- and is told he cannot enter. He stands to south side of Gate [10-15 minutes] Taft, Simpson & Randa arrive. [this makes it 30 minutes after he learns of murder.] The Bronco was not there, Taft parks his car in that location.
Simpson exits car with a black duffel bag over his shoulder, and goes directly through the open gate.
Cathy Randa exits car with the garment bag; Kardashian goes over to her and offers to hold the bag. Also observed later were a small bag [1-2 feet long 1 foot high] with a brown leather emblem and a silk hang bag with OJ's initials on it. [Officer refuses to allow him to bring bag inside -- or to take it in. Simpson was now handcuffed] Simpson is taken to Parker Center, and Kardashian goes to OJ's office with Cathy Randa.
1015Dennis Fung & Andrea Mazzola are at Bundy crime scene.
1030Merrill was scheduled to pickup Simpson. Golf Clubs remain in back of vehicle to be placed in Golf Cart by Merrill.
Marcia Clark, page 70 Here's the bottom line: Fung and his colleague, Andrea Mazzola, a trainee with only four months' experience, should have been supervised as they went over both crime scenes. Tom and Phil should have returned to oversee that search.
1100 [11:00 AM]
1200 [NOON]
1200Kardasian {LKL Tom Lange quote on bag contents -- cross with anything by Clark, at trial, on what might be in bag}
1230 [12:30 PM]
1230Marcia Clark arrives at Rockingham, where she sees the trail of blood droplets. Simpson has already arrived, been handcuffed, uncuffed and taken to Parker Center
Upon entering the house, she sees one of LAPD's few black detectives, Bert Luper, seated at the kitchen counter. He informs her that "Phil and Tom" have taken OJ downtown for questioning.

Clark writes, "Still, I couldn't fault Phil and Tom for leaving the crime scene to interview Simpson. You get your best shot before a suspect has had the chance to learn enough, or collect his wits sufficiently, to compose a convincing lie. By this point Simpson was, at the very least, a potential suspect."

Twelve hours after the discovery of two murder victim's, the lead detectives have
  • spent less than 45 minutes at the murder scene
  • violated departmental directives and delayed the coroner ten hours
  • routed the forensic team away from the actual crime scene
  • decided a second forensic team was unnecessary
  • lied to the court in a sworn statement, in order to obtain a search warrant
  • withheld information from the issuing judge
  • personally done no "detecting" at either location
  • and kept no notes.
Clark's priorities are interesting.
1200MR. COCHRAN: They came back on July 3rd and took those other pictures, the supposedly important stuff by the gate.
